Council Conclusions on the Promotion of motor skills, physical and sport activities for children.
Summary Full text Source
The Conclusions recognise that children’s motor-skills development and physical activity are essential for lifelong health, education and social participation. They highlight rising sedentary behaviour in children, the role of early childhood and primary education settings, and the responsibility of schools, families and communities in ensuring adequate movement and play.
Member States are encouraged to implement cross-sectoral strategies (education, health, youth, sport, transport) to promote physical activity and motor-skill development from early childhood, ensure safe infrastructures, strengthen partnerships among schools, sport clubs and local authorities, and raise awareness among parents and educators.
The European Commission is invited to support the sharing of best practices, strengthen the evidence base through data collection and research, develop guidelines for physical activity in early childhood and school settings, and encourage sport organisations to offer non-competitive, inclusive physical and sport activities for children including during the European Week of Sport.
Council Conclusions on Reviewing the 2011 Resolution on representation of EU Member States in Foundation Board of WADA and coordination of EU and its Member States' positions prior to WADA meetings.
Summary Full text Source
The Council conclusions reaffirm the commitment of Member States and the EU to maintain the coordination system in place for the representation of EU Member States in the World Anti‐Doping Agency (WADA) Foundation Board and the coordination of positions prior to WADA meetings.
They recognise that the existing framework, as set out by the 2011 Resolution, remains valid and effective. At the same time, the conclusions identify areas requiring reinforcement, including more regular involvement of the Council Presidency, improved scientific expertise among Member States, and better coordination prior to public authority meetings.
The document sets a further review date of 31 December 2018, by which time the experience gained from the arrangements will be analysed and possible adjustments considered.
